It's a busy time on the farm. We have lots of Asian greens (komatsuna, wasabina, shungiku, meikena, yokattana, etc.) almost ready for harvest, along with red radishes, daikon, and a couple of varieties of Japanese lettuce. Our first variety of edamame is in the ground (in the high tunnel), as well as the first batch of "jumbo ingen," a Japanese jumbo pole bean that is tender and sweet. In addition, we have about 6000 seedlings in the high tunnel, including momotaro tomatoes, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, eggplant, shishito peppers, kabocha winter squash, Japanese long cucumbers, bitter melon, fava beans, broccoli, Japanese variety okra, herbs, and more.
We are also raising up 50 chicks to start experimenting with pastured poultry this season.
It's been wonderful having the high tunnel and being able to farm on our own place for the first time.
We are looking forward to being at the farmers' market and having produce at Mama Jean's and Homegrown Food again soon. We will keep you posted about our harvest schedules.
